I am a Mexican lesbian with a background in art and design seeking to be a voice that advocates for a generation that isn’t always given a chance to speak for themselves. As a person of color, I know how effective it is to have more privileged individuals use their visibility to uplift other marginalized people’s struggles. I believe our LGBTQ+ youth could benefit deeply from this same strategy. Many of us experienced our own difficulties of pinpointing our identities while having our anxieties dismissed by people who believed we had nothing of value to say. It is our responsibility to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, and in this way we show them what a community devoted to protecting each after one another truly looks like.
